Protection vs Cleaning….two very different things!

Should we have both in a single product?

Whats the point?

If a product has failed in protecting you from the infection in the first place, how can you expect it to clean it? And if the product can protect you in the first place, why do you need the cleaning part included?

So as you can see, having both capability of Protection and cleaning in one product is unnecessary!

I also have been using Comodo products for quite a few years. With all the information that Comodo have received from users submitting files it must surely have a huge database of PC mischief making submissions.
The products are excellent offerings, helping everyone to protect their PC’s.

I started using your product about a year ago, mainly because I have gotten swamped by viruses, and have had total loss of control of my pc. My fault, because I didn’t use decent protection, and also because I fish for viruses by going to all the wrong websites. Since using Commodo, my pc is clean and stays clean. Thank you for an excellent product.

i’d like it to have a warning when blocking a file or program that will stop the internet from working, or a warning when blocking a program that will affect windows from working properly. Basically i want to block everything on my pc apart from IE and firefox, msn messenger and comodo. I dont want any windows file or programs accessing the internet either tcp or udp, unless they are needed by IE and firefox. Apart from that i love comodo. It’s brilliant.

As an ex IT person, who has always bought ISS (internet security suites) since they are meant to fully protect your PC, I am somehow disappointed that some users of this FREE and full working Internet Security Suite are always moaning about: why don’t you integrate Comodo Essentials, etc… I have used Kaspersky internet security suite up to ver 2011 and it killed my pc, took me 3 days to re-build it! CISPremium is the best on the market, it is free, use it and stop trying to find negatives in it. Try OUTPOST? I forgot firewall and a free A/V program and see what you are getting? RUBBISH. Thanks Comodo for an excellent product! Patrick Faury (French Tahitian now living in NZ!).

I have had good luck with the free comodo product and commend you for it. As for this video….while I perfectly understand the difference between cleaning and protecting, and I somewhat understand the technical underpinnings of both those things, the fact remains that consumers want a single “security center” that takes care of both those areas (and possibly more). And there are good technical reasons for, if not the same app, at least different modules of a related suite (I’m thinking compatability issues, also threat evaluation and tracking, logkeeping, etc.) I feel a little patronized by this video, but I suppose that’s the mass market. Over the years I have paid for and gotten for free various security soft -some has been a disaster (some of Norton’s older stuff, McCaffee) Other’s worked great at first then lost it’s useability (Rising). Comodo (free version) has worked well for over a year. Let’s hope it keeps up! Thanks for the hard work and great product!

Comodo really is the best. I’ve been using the free x64 internet security for about a year and a half now with no incident. Nothing gets past it.

by Andrew
on January 31st, 2011 - 9:25 pm

A few of you are missing the point.

Comodo do have software that prevents unknown SW from installing or downloading to your computer. Its called a default denial system.
If the SW is unknown, Comodo will bring up a popup which gives you a choice to sandbox it and send the file to them for examination.

This stops your computer from further infection.

The essentials will help clean and keep clean the computer, until all previous unknown viruses (before you used the Comodo antivirus firewall say) that were on your computer are eradicated.

Eventually, you should end up with a perfectly clean PC and one that will stay clean.

It makes good sense to keep Essentials and Internet security on the comp so you have several ways to keep it that way.

If you bring a virus in on a memstick, without first scanning it with Comodo and choosing the sandbox option if its an unknown, then you are negating all that Comodo has done in the first place and its your fault not theirs.

And don’t forget, some of their SW is free, you don’t have to pay for everything.

It has been my experience with Comodo firewall and antivirus to have acheived the most protected computer model I have ever experienced. Their new technology protects in a way that others cannot achieve. I have tried many programs and would only recommend Comodo for its ways of protecting. I expecially love the way it protects my wireless and protects against ARP incursin and allows one to block sneaky IP’s that would spy on you. It is a fantastic program. I am Dave Stacey, aka doowop62, the Top Secret Discloser and Comodo firewall and antivirus is just what the IT specialist recommend for protection.

@saywhat: the argument is:
To clean an infected Computer you should use Comodo Cleaning Essentials.
To protect a clean computer you should use Comodo Internet Security

by Comodo
on January 31st, 2011 - 7:57 pm

our resource usage is minimal.

by Comodo
on January 31st, 2011 - 7:50 pm

Because there is simply no use-case for installing security product to protect your clean pc, then expect the very same product to clean the infection it just let in. If it knew about the malware, it would have stopped it…the reason why it let the infection in is because it didn’t know about it. So there simply is no scenerio for having a cleaning product attached to a Protection product that is being installed to a clean PC. Some people say, yeah but what if it didn’t protect then you need cleaning…and the answer to that is: the reason why it didn’t protect is because it doesn’t know about that malware, so it can’t clean it either. Hope this clarifies.

I’ve used Comodo for many years. I had previously used Norton and McAfee,(for a fee, of course)and had more problems than you could shake a stick at. I have never, ever had a virus, a worm, even a schnitzel, since I started using Comodo. If you use anything else or depend on the B.S. you see and hear from anyone else you are headed down a one way street. You’re going to get hacked and virused eventually.

The infomercial was right on. The problem with people is the lack of technical terminology plus the way we abbreviate letters with the actual meaning of the abbreviating words ( lol could be lots of luck or laugh out load ) Just the start with every technical area there overlapping meanings. This is a well thought out piece of information with a good brake down on how it happens. well thought out and should be a commercial on the boob tub to get to the masses to educate the people with the 8Th. grade education and the children will catch on quick with the terminology meanings that are different to other but use the same abbreviations. As simple as the words with the army and the cleaning person. One has to find the situation and do what it can to correct it and the cleaner is the person to get to the problem and gets clean the over all look and some of the problems that they may be able to fix and sometimes get stuck when all the solution used did not work call back the army special forces to get the job done then give it back to the cleaner to make it look good as new, maybe not as good as new. grate place, LA

Thank you for the excellent presentation. You have explained and targeted the basic security issue: prevention. I use your products and recommend them to my clients. This video shows exactly why. I have found nothing else that compares to Comodo products for prevention.
Thank you.

by Rob
on January 31st, 2011 - 5:13 pm

Here’s the thing. If you CREATED a cleaning product (Comodo Essential), then you recognize the NEED for cleaning. So why not simply integrate Comodo Essential INTO Comodo Internet Security, so that it DOES “two different things.”

That’s what doesn’t seem to be grasped in this video: I doubt anyone would argue that removal and prevention are “two different things.” That being said, most products DO “two different things.” And since your acknowledge the NEED for both of those things, why doesn’t your product (internet security) DO bot of those things?

Greetings to you dear developers from COMODO! From the wide range of choices at the choice of software protecting your PC, I chose products COMODO, as has personally performed several tests to verify the personal computer based on Windows XP and Windows 7. Conditions of the test was purely installed operating system on which to bet antivirus or that manufacturer, and then unpack the archive in 6000 Virus.rar experimentation involved five anti-virus (no firewalls) COMODO coped with this problem better than anyone))))
A little later, I held the test for detection of Malvar, COMODO has shown itself perfectly well. ;-) Well, your firewall and does not need to comment, agree with this whole internet. )))
Thank you very much for such labor and care about you, the more so in your product line contains both paid and free versions. In a word Well done! Once again BIG THANKS to you!.

Well explained! Everyone can see how a soldier, set out to protect, would be hindered if he had to carry cleaning tools with him while trying to fight. Same goes for cleaners: they couldn’t work very fast if they had to carry guns and ammunition while doing the cleaning.

What we need are good, light, specialized tools that can do the job they’ve been disigned for. “Using the right tools, is half the job”; my Grandfather already told me this half a century ago… ;)

I have been using COMODO Firewall for some years and then went over to use COMODO INTERNET SECURITY PREMIUM (Firewall-Antivirus-Defense). It is functional, highly efficient has delivered every promess it said it will do.
That’s preventive protection carried to a high level. My laptop is safe and protected thanks to COMODO.

Yes, you should have them both in a single product. Why people install any antivirus (legacy or not)? Because they want to be free of viruses. Sometimes people wait too long before installing an antivirus and the machine is infected. Then, it’s the antivirus, which should cleanup the machine and not seperate products like CCE or Norton Power Eraser or other tools like them.
The video is very coool ;)
